It is possible that one of the things you can have done at PMDC Dental is having braces put on your teeth. If you have braces put on, there are a few things you will need to keep in mind, particularly when it comes to the types of food you eat and how you clean your teeth.
There are a number of types of foods you should try to avoid when wearing braces, as they can either cause damage to your braces or can make it extremely difficult to keep your braces clean. Sticky foods are a particular type of food you want to avoid, as they can easily get caught up in your braces and can be very tough to remove. Some sticky foods you especially want to avoid include gum, gummy bears, taffy, and licorice. Crunchy and hard foods could damage your braces. Some of the crunchy foods to avoid include hard candies, nuts, chips, and corn on the cob. You can still eat corn, but it should be off the cob. Also, hard fruits such as apples should be sliced before you eat them.
Foods you can eat while wearing braces are generally soft foods. Bread, soft fruits and vegetables, ground beef, fish, pasta, rice, and mashed potatoes are among the soft foods that are safe to eat with braces. Soft snacks are ok, as well, such as pudding, Jell-O, cake, and soft ice cream (as long as there is nothing hard in the ice cream, such as nuts or candy).
Of course, you are going to want to keep your teeth clean, and while braces can make it a bit tricky, it is far from impossible. Actually brushing your teeth isn’t all that different than without braces, but it is important to use a soft bristle toothbrush, as a hard bristle one could potentially damage your braces. Flossing can be the tricky part, but there are ways to make it easier. For example, using waxed floss will make it easier to push floss between your teeth and braces. Just be sure to not push down on the wire of your braces with the floss when flossing above them. You can also try using a floss threader or a waterpik.
